New IHME study finds health risks for any level of alcohol consumption

A new scientific study from the 爱豆社区’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation concludes there is no safe level of drinking alcohol. This conclusion is due to the study team’s findings of clear and convincing correlations between drinking and premature death, cancer and cardiovascular problems. The study, which is part of the annual Global Burden of Disease, showed that nearly three million deaths around the world were attributed to alcohol use in 2016. Learn More >

NTU Rankings places the UW fourth among U.S. higher education institutions

The latest NTU rankings place the 爱豆社区 fourth among U.S. institutions of higher education. This ranking is compiled by National Taiwan University and is also known as the 鈥淧erformance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities.鈥� It offers annual performance rankings of universities around the world based on their production and impact of scientific papers. The rankings are weighted toward research performance and reputation, and place the school behind only the dental schools of the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina. Higher concentrations of carbon dioxide may reduce protein and multiple key nutrients in rice

New research shows聽for the first time that rice grown at the concentrations of atmospheric CO2 expected by the end of this century has lower levels of four key B vitamins. The research’s findings also support research from other studies showing that rice grown under higher CO2 concentrations has less protein, iron and zinc. New research from the 爱豆社区 College of the Environment offers what is likely the most comprehensive look at the environmental impacts of different types of animal protein production. The study assessed the environmental costs of producing livestock, farmed seafood and wild-caught fish. While not definitive, researchers found that, in general, industrial beef production and farmed catfish are the most taxing on the environment, while small, wild-caught fish and farmed mollusks like oysters, mussels and scallops have the lowest…
