Helen Neal Radke, '33
Port Angeles, writes that her husband, Fred, '32, '33, died on Aug. 24, 1997. He retired as pulp mill superintendent of ITT Rayonier in Port Angeles in 1974, and was a member of the UW President's Club and Dean's Club of the College of Engineering.

Redmond, report that their grandson, Evan McDonald, was married in June 1998 to Elena Sakolona in Estonia, and is living in Moscow, Russia, where he works for an American Internet company and she for American Express.

Pendleton, Ore., is retired from the National Weather Service. He and his wife, Dorothy, have been rockhounds for the past 45 years and were recently elected to the National Rockhound and Lapidary Hall of Fame in Murdo, S.D.
Mary Jean Johnson Sparks, '46
Aptos, Calif., retired at the age of 62 and lives at Via Pacifica Gardens.
Grant Winther, '53
Bainbridge Island, and his wife, Barbara, still represent the East Africa Wildlife Society out of Nairobi, Kenya. He continues his mountain climbing, visiting the summit of Mount Baker last July. His wife published a book of children's plays, Plays From Hispanic Tales.
Shelby Scates, '54
Seattle, won a 1998 Governor's Writers Award for his book, Warren G. Magnuson and the Shaping of 20th Century America, published by the UW Press in 1996.
Charles A. Berst, '55, '65
Los Angeles, had retired but was recalled to teach English at UCLA, where he had chaired the College of Letters and Science faculty and the Academic Senate, and received that school's distinguished teaching and service awards.
Robert W. Campbell, 56
Laguna Beach, Calif., retired in 1996 after a career in public relations. He spent 14 years as news bureau manager for First Interstate Bank and was a public relations specialist for the American Association of Retired Persons in California. He also retired in 1987 as a naval reserve captain after 30 years.
Frank E. Supansick Jr., '58
Gardena, Calif., retired from Northrop Corp. in 1987. His main hobby is traveling, visiting his hometown of Renton, and watching the Huskies play football every year.
Charles E. Peery, '59, 62
Seattle, has been elected to a second term as Washington state chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He practices in Seattle with the firm of Peery, Hiscock, Pierson, Kingman and Peabody .
Arun G. Jhaveri, '61
Burien, was appointed to the Highline Community College Board of Trustees. A regional technology manager for the U.S. Dept. of Energy's Seattle Regional Support Office, he was Burien's first mayor.
Becky Sisley, '61
Eugene, Ore., was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 4, 1998. She has been on the Oregon faculty for 33 years and served as the one and only director of women's intercollegiate athletics there from 1973-79. An international master's class pole vaulter, she holds numerous age-group world and U.S. records in track and field.
George F. Lund, '62
Aberdeen, is retired from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. Now 67 years old, he still works part-time for Rite Aid.
J. Patrick Mitchell, '63, '65
Kirkland, has been married to his wife, Marilyn, since June 1962. They have three children (Amy, Kirk and Scott, all of whom have college degrees) and five grandchildren. He is a self-employed architect, specializing in churches, campus and recreation facilities and residences.
Sharon Elaine, '65
Ellensburg, is retiring in June after 18 years as a professor of physical education, health education and leisure services at Central Washington University. She previously taught at Idaho State, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan and the Medical College of Georgia.
Roger Shell, '65
Carnation, is director/founder of "Camlann Medieval Village & pe Bors hede" restaurant, featuring medieval food and music. He just published the pe Bors Hede Boke of Cookry, which talks about food and cooking in the 14th and 15th centuries in England.
James D. Kirk, '67
Loomis, Calif., is president and CEO of two banks in the farm credit system, covering 14 states. He and his wife, LaDonna Kirk, '65, have two married sons and are proud grandparents of two girls.
James R. Rogers, '69
Seattle, was honored as the 1998 Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association.
Joan Shaver, '70
Chicago, has served as dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago since the fall of 1996. Before that, she spent 15 years on the faculty of the UW School of Nursing.
Steven Holl, '71
New York, has an exhibition at the Belleuve Art Museum through Jan. 17. He is an architect who designed the Belleuve museum as well as many projects worldwide, including the award-winning Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University.
Jim Whitesel, '71, '74
Kirkland, was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame. He has served as head athletic trainer for the Seattle Seahawks since 1983. He and his wife, Sharron, '71, have three children: Anna, '97; Joe, a UW student; and Mike, a junior at Lake Washington High School.
James E. Martineau, '73
Kirkland, has been married to Kathleen M. Martineau for 28 years. He is the airlines customers accounts manager for Eldec Corp. in Lynnwood. Their first son, Mathew, '98, is a computer engineering graduate of the UW. Daughter Anne is a UW junior majoring in psychology. Son Jared is a senior at Juanita High School "and probable 1999 UW freshman," James writes.
Ken Chisholm, '74
Kent, retired from Weyerhauser after 23 years. He now does volunteer work in stream restoration and fish habitat improvement. He is staying busy and enjoying retirement with his wife, Sue, and 11 grandchildren.

Oakland, Calif., is a deputy attorney general for the state of California's criminal division. He previously worked as a librarian and teacher.

Albany, Ore., joined the staff of the Corvallis Gazette-Times as a business reporter. He had been director of communications at Project Vote Smart and a reporter for Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Flower Mound, Texas, has been married for 15 years and has a 14-year-old son. She is supervisor for customer service for reservations for Delta Air Lines. She is also treasurer for the UW's Dallas/Fort Worth alumni club.

Vancouver, Wash., has joined the investment firm of Limoges Investment Management in Vancouver as an analyst and portfolio manager. He had been the chief financial officer for the Nicewonger Co. and J.H. Kelly.

Seattle, is principal of Interlake High School in the Bellevue School Dist. His son, Aaron, '98, graduated from the UW with a degree in history.

Muncie, Ind., is president of the Indiana Philosophy Assoc. She presented guest seminars at the University of Lund (Malmo, Sweden), and the University of Goteborg (Goteborg, Sweden) last May.

Federal Way, lived and taught in the former Soviet Union and Russia from 1991-1993. She started a local charity for children of Chernobyl and delivered the keynote at the Chernobyl Conference in Warsaw last May. She is a project director for the National Asian Pacific Ctr. on Aging.

Seattle, is touring the U.S. and British Columbia with the group Living Voices in Within the Silence, Share the Courage. She was featured in the film This is the Disk-O-Boyz.

Arlington, Va., and his wife, Laura, announce the birth of their son, Brendan, on Aug. 19, 1998. Michael is a systems consultant for Sybase, focusing on the mobile and embedded computing software market. Laura is the risk manager for Avalon Bay Communities.

Washington, D.C., joined Prudential Securities as a financial adviser in its downtown office. Before this career change, he spent 15 years in science, having worked for the Navy, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, NASA and other companies.

Seattle, and her husband, Keith, became the proud parents of Christena Marie on Jan. 30, 1998. Tamara and Keith celebrated their second wedding anniversary in August.

Seattle, married Christopher Ruiz, '91, on May 30, 1998. She is a senior counselor in the UW Office of Student Financial Aid. He is a financial adviser for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.
Susan I. Scott, '92
Houston, and her husband, Mike Saunders, were on their three-year cruise through the Caribbean when they stopped in Honduras for the 1998 hurricane season. They were stateside when Hurricane Mitch hit but their sailboat, Journey, came out fine. "We have not made it to the eastern Caribbean yet but may still head that way," she writes. "Two years in the northwest Caribbean is enough."

Silverdale, has been working for Wal-Mart for five years and is currently manager of the Bremerton store. He has been married 2 1/2 years and has two children, Zachary, 2, and Hailey, 4 months.

Mercer Island, was appointed senior vice president, industry relations, for the Hotel Group of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. He had been vice president and general sales manager for Westin Hotels & Resorts.

Tumwater, is traveling to South America with her husband, Jim, and teen-age daughters to spend nine months in Ecuador. The girls will do independent study to gain high school credit and the family will produce a video documentary on Ecuadorian culture.

Everett, and his wife, Mara (Nyberg) Martin, '92, had their first child, a baby girl, on Oct. 8, 1998. Jessica Michelle Martin was seven pounds, 11 1/2 oz. and 21 inches long.

Boston, attends grad school at Simmons College, studying library and information science. She spends as much time as she can with her fellow Husky best friend, William McClure, '96, a law student at Georgetown.

Ellensburg, was married to Steve Mahler on April 3, 1998. They moved to Ellensburg, where she is pursuing a teacher's credential. She will be teaching high school history and English, and has been a varsity softball and JV volleyball coach.

Moraga, Calif., interned with the Oakland A's, San Jose Lasers and California-Berkeley before taking a job with the Wilkinson Group, a marketing sponsorship consulting firm in San Francisco. She is also getting a master's in sports management at the Univ. of San Francisco.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is an exchange student at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College and was the flight logistics commander for Air Force 1/Marine 1 for the November APEC summit in Kuala Lumpur. He and his wife, Yvonne, welcomed a son, Maxwell Patrick, on Sept. 29, 1998.

Malawi, is serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in the southern African nation of Malawi. She met with First Lady Hillary Rodhan Clinton and Queen Noor of Jordan at a Sept. 15 Peace Corps event in Washington, D.C., before leaving.
